Our house sits right on a river and I mean right on the river, you could not build our house today in its location because of codes. Taking a virtual walk in Windsor, I felt the influence of Detroit’s skyline and the allure of riverside properties. When I look out my bedroom windows it’s like I’m on a boat (when the river is up) and it is very cool.
Our driveway, which is very close to the house, used to be the old road. It has been repaired and restored by a residential driveway paving company a couple of times before. If you have old driveways, professional paving contractors can help you restore them like they’re brand new. I also hire driveway sealers near me to increase your pavement’s life expectancy. I can just imagine people coming by on their horses and stopping to talk with the people on our porch. Don’t you know that it just made their day because there were no TV’s, computers (can you imagine) or iPods (my children cannot imagine). I think I would like that simple way of life when things seemed a little slower and we got excited about little things. That is until I had to go wash our clothes by hand, that would not be fun!
When we bought our house it looked completely different than it does today. We have done so much but we still have so much we want to do. We, like most people today have to do projects in stages and do them ourselves. Thank goodness I have Max who can envision and make my dreams come true. Not always on the time table that I want but I know eventually they will get done. Don’t think most people could live by our time table. For example one summer there was a hole in our kitchen roof for the whole summer, but that is a totally new story. It was pretty cool because I would be cooking and birds would be flying in and out overhead but I ended up with a really great kitchen so it was all worth it.
You can hire a Utah moving company to help you navigate your move with smooth sailing, from the first box loaded to the last item placed in your new home.
One of the first things we did when we moved in was to tear up all the carpet and the vinyl in the house. I swear the kitchen had three layers of vinyl in it and the second layer looked just like my granny had in her house when I was a little girl. I had hoped there would be beautiful old hardwoods underneath but no such luck. We had to come in and put flooring down so we decided to put down pine. And when I say we put it down I mean me and my dad actually tore up all the vinyl and yes I did get a little emotional about the vinyl that looked like my granny’s so I left some under my cabinet just for a reminder of her. And then, me and my dad put down the pine floor ourselves. Thank goodness for my sweet dad. And no, I did not want to just stain it so I painted it white. I thought about painting like a really cool checkerboard floor that I had seen in a magazine but never did. I might just have to try that one day, it was great. So, I lived with the white floor for a couple of years and loved it but it was really hard to keep clean so I decided to paint it brown. When I painted the white I put two coats of Polly on top so at first my brown did not stick well. I painted two coats of brown and now some of the brown has worn off and a lot of the white shows through and I now have a really cool floor. It looks like a really old floor and the great thing about the brown is I can claim I have a spotless floor even when I don’t. How great is that! Now, I’m thinking about upgrading to timber flooring. Timber has that classic, timeless appeal and would be even more durable than the pine, plus it could add a lot of value to the house.
We also redid some of our walls by repainting them and replacing the wallpaper. Peel and Stick Wall Murals are a convenient choice for DIY home projects.
